Treaty of Waitangi

The treaty of waitangi s a treaty first signed on 6 February 1840 by representatives of the British Crown and various Māori chiefs from the North Island of New Zealand. The Treaty established a British Governor of New Zealand, recognised Maori ownership of their lands and other properties, and gave the Maori the rights of British subjects. The English and Maori versions of the Treaty differed significantly, so there is no consensus as to exactly what was agreed to. From the British point of view, the Treaty gave Britain sovereignty over New Zealand, and gave the Governor the right to govern the country. Maori believed they ceded to the Crown a right of governance in return for protection, without giving up their authority to manage their own affairs. After the initial signing at Waitangi, copies of the Treaty were taken around New Zealand and over the following months many other chiefs signed.

Experimenting with popcorn

Tuesday 7th June By Britney Filimoehala
On Wednesday we went down to the hall kitchen to make yogurt popcorn. Mrs Slade opened the door and we had all the ingredients that we needed. While we were waiting Mrs Tepania went and got us some word finds to do. Mrs Slade called us one by one to stir the mixture and put in the ingredients. When the yogurt popcorn was ready Moala and I put the yogurt popcorn into cups and handed them out to the kids. When I tasted the yogurt popcorn it had too much maple syrup so Mrs Slade put in some more popcorn and it was delicious. The next day we made chicken stock popcorn.First we popped the popcorn and Mrs Slade pour the popcorn into a bowl and it was popping all over the table. I poured some oil into the popcorn so it would help the chicken stock stick to the popcorn. When it was ready we had a little taste and tasted nice and delicious.

Bigger, Better, Stronger, Faster

On Tuesday afternoon room 16 had a try at making paper tower so Mr Somerville hand out cardboard paper and we went in group in three. When Mr Somerville said that the time was running out, he said to bring our towers. Mr Somerville put the block on top of our paper tower, he called out my group. When my name was called out I got up with my paper tower. Mr Somerville put the block on top and the block fell down because my tower was not strong enough.

Popcorns

Today we tasted two kinds of popcorn. The first one was Candy Coated popcorn. When I tasted the Candy Coated it was to sweet and sugary. The delicious one that I liked was the banana because I like monkeys and they eat bananas. Next we tasted the Caramel Coated popcorn. When I toke one bite it tasted delicious and it was my favorite. This is the best and I enjoyed it. Thank You Mrs Lorene Slade.

A Rainy Day

When it rains at playtime I felt sad for all the children that can't play outside. They run around and their uniform is wet and cold. Some people want to come into the library but it was closed at playtime. Only the librarian’s are allowed inside. The children have to go to class so the teacher can see that they are safe and warm. At night when it rains I get annoyed because when I watch television I can’t hear it. The rain hitting the roof sounds like popcorn popping. My favourite thing to do on a rainy night is to snuggle back in my warm blanket.
